Music that lasts.

One of the great things about having a 20-year-old kid is you can run music by him and see what appeals to him based on the music alone, since he doesn’t have the cultural baggage about the players. Maybe some of my tastes have rubbed off on him, or maybe we have similar wiring, I don’t know. I remember when I played Steely Dan’s Kid Charlemagne for him he was all over it, and so were all his friends when he played it for them. Same with most Tom Petty tunes. J.J. Cale, not so much, but that might be because I played him so much for a while there he got sick of him.

In any case, songs with an appeal beyond a generation fascinate me. I think this might be one, though lyrically it calls for some maturity.
