Sometimes a segment of a song will reach out and grab you, with just the right blend of music and lyric to conjure a mood or memory, ideally something universal. Lately, this segment from the Live Anthology version of Petty’s “Southern Accents” is especially powerful for me, probably because it’s the holidays, which makes me think of family and calls up my late mother, who was a treasure and remains so in my heart, obviously.
Also, as I listen to this live version, I must acknowledge the audience for the enthusiasm which apparently drove such ill-timed whooping.
