I’ve always found the guitars J.J. plays interesting. This one looks like he bought it for about $15 in a pawn shop in Armpit, Okla., and then backed over it a couple of times in the parking lot. Tune it and go.

Nah. The privacy policies of my old college friends don’t bother me. BTW, I’m reading a book now called “The Daily You.” Fascinating, horrifying, and real. Recommended.

Thanks, Michael. Much of the explanation is over my head, but from what I can gather, I bet you’re right. I don’t know why anyone would send email via telnet, so it’s probably just a glitch. I have a gmail account I access through pop in outlook, so maybe it was just a hiccup there. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!

Hi fred,

maybe someone tried to use smtp via telnet, so no real mail client was used to send that mail.

Try it yourself:
telnet smtp.yourdomain.com
> ehlo justtesting
> mail from: info@sender.com
> rcpt to: your@yourdomain.com
> data
1 40610
.

That should send a strange mail without headers (if your mailserver does not add any).

The content that you see there looks like POP3 raw code, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop3#Dialog_example

Do you have some kind of collection service? Or maybe Outlook fetched the mail via POP3 and made a mistake?

Thanks for that disturbing anecdote, Todd. Your story seems to confirm what I suspect about facebook. Maybe it’s time to start polluting Facebook’s intelligence pool with disinformation.

I had something similar while working on a FB integration for my employer. I signed up for a FB account with a throw-away hotmail address from a work computer that I had never used for personal purposes. The hotmail email was something like ‘gjiejfioej@hotmail.com’. I didn’t post anything at all to the FB account and only used it to work with the software I was developing. Within a day, FB was suggesting that I connect to people I actually know. The creepiest part about it was that these were not work colleagues–these were people I haven’t seen in 15 years.

Update: I went to FB and ran through all my privacy settings. Nowhere did I find anything linking to yahoo. Also checked yahoo and saw nothing linking the accounts.

Thanks, Justin. I’ll check it out. I do know I’ve never knowingly linked them. The yahoo account I use only for the neighborhood list with my email client.
